Before replacing a too-firm mattress, check the surface
If the mattress underneath is still in good shape, a quilted topper may be a simpler way to add the softer finish you wanted.
You chose the mattress carefully. It fits the bed, looks right and feels solid. Then you settle in for the night, turn onto your side and find yourself shifting around, looking for a softer spot.
Buying another mattress feels like starting again: more expense, more comparisons and another decision you might get wrong. Before doing that, work out what actually needs changing.
Is the mattress worn out, or is its surface simply firmer than you enjoy? That distinction helps you decide whether a topper is worth considering.
If there is a deep sag, a damaged spring or a broken base, address that first. A topper follows the mattress underneath; it cannot rebuild it. The National Bed Federation’s consumer guidance makes the same distinction.1
If the mattress is new, also check the seller’s settling-in advice and any comfort-exchange or return options before buying an extra layer.
What a softer top layer can change
A fibre-filled topper sits between the mattress and your fitted sheet. Its padding adds a quilted layer at the point where your body meets the bed. The aim is a softer surface feel while the mattress beneath continues to provide the main support.
Think of the difference between a plain seat and the same seat with a cushion. The feel at the surface changes; the structure underneath stays the same.
A polyester-fibre topper is worth considering if you prefer a cushioned, quilted finish. If you want pronounced body-contouring or a substantial change in support, compare foam or latex options and their specifications too. Comfort is personal, and one type will not suit every sleeper.
A quilted option to consider
CloudLayer™ Mattress Topper
CloudLayer combines a microfibre outer with polyester filling, rectangular quilting, a piped edge and wide elastic straps at all four corners. It is designed to add a quilted comfort layer to the mattress you already own.
Centre it on the mattress, wrap the straps beneath each corner and put your fitted sheet over both. The straps help hold the topper in position; your fitted sheet needs enough depth for the combined layers.

A few things to know before choosing
Will it make a very hard mattress feel completely different?
Expect an added quilted layer rather than a new mattress. How much difference it makes depends on the mattress, your weight and your preferred feel. CloudLayer is not a treatment for pain or a repair for damaged support.
What if I tend to sleep warm?
An extra padded layer may feel warmer. CloudLayer is not sold as a cooling topper, so consider your bedding and room temperature before adding another layer.
Will it fit my bed and be easy to care for?
Measure your mattress rather than relying on its name, and check your fitted-sheet depth. Follow the product’s care label. If strap fit, exact topper depth or machine-washing is essential to your decision, contact Restenna for confirmation before ordering.
What if it is not right for me?
Contact Restenna within 14 days of delivery to notify a return, before posting the product. You then have a further 14 days to return it. Ask for the return instructions and any applicable return-postage costs. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
Keep the mattress. Reconsider the finish.
If your mattress is sound and the missing ingredient is a softer surface, CloudLayer is a straightforward quilted option to consider. Check the measurements, choose the right UK size and decide whether its materials and feel match what you want from your bed.
